We are thrilled that ANNIKA WAGENHOFF will be coming to the MIX to teach us West African Dancing.

Annika grew up in Germany and moved to Dunedin in 2007 to study where she discovered and fell in love with traditional and contemporary West African dance. In 2015, she joined Āwherika, a high-energy West African drum and dance performance group with members from all over New Zealand, and has performed and taught extensively since then.

What she loves the most about teaching, performing, and collaborating with drummers is the connecting with people, creating community and sharing the joy and positive energy that dancing and drumming is bringing into our lives. BRING IT ON!!

Koffie Fugah, the artistic director of Yexoese drummers, will be providing an opportunity for interactive teaching within shows.

Singing for Everyone

Musical Workshop by Molly Devine

Picture

Molly Devine believes singing is for everyone. She often feels when she is singing she is hogging all the joy! She has a goal to get as many people singing as she possibly can. In a world of Television Talent shows and Super Pop stars it's hard to believe singing can be for everyone. Who would even want to sing anyway it's terribly competitive and you'll make no money from it... And what if I sound bad? Or crack a high? Or I'm pitchy? There would be nothing more embarrassing than that... This workshop aims to get everyone singing and enjoying themselves by the end of the 60-minute session, as well as quieting any negative singing related self-talk. We will be focusing on the singer’s most important job, which is telling a story. There will be something for everyone, new singers and old!

International collective Mad Hallelujah Tribe travels the globe inviting audiences to join them on journeys of ecstatic, heartfelt, intricately crafted "Mystic Glory Folk."

Inspired by the wilderness, mystical & psychedelic experiences, and epic jams on the ramblin' road, their songs feature deep lyricism, big vocal harmonies & sing-along chants, infectious grooves, soaring string solos, and healthy doses of weirdness, humour, and improvisation.

“Musical medicine, deeply tangible immersive gypsy folk, inducing uncontrollable limb flailing and feet stomping. Raw. Personal. Shamanic Ecstasy.” - Jake Graffy, Dancer, UK

THEY BRING THE JAM:
"We are all adept at and very keen to hold space for jams and spaces of magical musical expression... it's basically our favourite thing in the world to do! :-) "
