"Kia Ora.
I have been learning the weaving of harakeke, traditional flax weaving, since 2008. I did a course for three years at Waitati, with the Whanau Arohanui, for three years. I like to share what I have been learning.
Weaving encapsulates nature, culture, language, family, community.
Thank you."

ConSensual ConTact ConTent                    -Theme Camp-

My vision for ConSensual ConTact ConTent is to facilitate a safe space to invite deeper awareness from which to explore connections including Conscious Touch and Conscious Cuddling. I offer activities for people to get to know themselves better and more profoundly, this includes boundary playshops and on into contact, touch and possibly cuddling, a very pleasurable, relaxing and healing activity.

I was inspired by the web site for ‘The Mix’ to do something different, and excited by the opportunity to create a new space in a new festival. I have joined with 2 friends, my long term Kiwi friend/sister Devon Millar and her new partner Kerry Cooper, who are experienced festival people, to co-create. We are in the process of constructing our first Bamboo Roundhouse and wish to use this as the basis of out Themed Camp, ConSensual ConTact ConTent.

I'm a very experienced facilitator of workshops & ceremonies and an awesome space holder. I am regularly part of Luminate, Evolve and Convergence Festivals when I am in NZ and have taught in many countries incl festivals in the UK and Bali. My main base in the world is Koh Phangan in Thailand where I am a long term active part of a Conscious Community. The collective name for my offerings is “Ecstatic Presence” and I offer much under this umbrella.

We will post up opening times and invite people to come and join us in a clean and sober condition, bringing something comfortable to lay on and a heart ready to explore ♥

We are excited to announce that super talented Alice Maxwell will be teaching workshops in contact staff and dragon staff, as well as the all-levels workshop in geometric drawing, including mandalas, tessellation/tiling and fractals!!! Alice is a beautiful blend of graceful and techy when she spins, with over 5 years of experience in fire performing at festivals and shows. She is also an amazing artist who can make the seemingly mind-boggling mandala drawing more accessible and fun for you to try.

We are excited to announce that Jeff from Backyard Honey Bees, known locally as ‘the bee man,’ will be coming and sharing his wealth of experience in all things bee related.

In the first workshop you will have the opportunity to discover what is inside a working hive. Jeff will be talking about the different products that the bees make and there will be a chance to ask him questions. This will be an evening workshop so as to reduce disturbance to the hive as much as possible.
The next day Jeff will be making a hive. This workshop is an exceptional opportunity to learn the skills required to make your own bee hive. Skills taught will include learning about wood wear, foundation wax, top bar hives, using a jig and wiring up the frames. Don’t forget to ask Jeff all your questions, as his knowledge base is legendary.

Molly Devine

Molly Devine is an exciting new artist from the deep south of New Zealand. Her reflective and observatory lyrics are underscored dramatically with epic texture and intricate melodies painting dense and cinematic sonic landscapes. Her voice is versatile and dynamic, she soars from a deep and soulful lower register up to an angelic and almost Theremin like upper register. She’s often compared with quirky artists like David Bowie and Kate Bush, although her sound is something very new and different. In December 2015 she released her enchanting music video for her single, Puppets, which was filmed in the Oamaru Victorian Precinct. Since then she has released her EP Planet Glitter - Phase One, a short (but soon to be expanded on) exploration of duty and time.

Singing for Everyone

12/2/2016

Musical Workshop by Molly Devine

Picture

Molly Devine believes singing is for everyone. She often feels when she is singing she is hogging all the joy! She has a goal to get as many people singing as she possibly can. In a world of Television Talent shows and Super Pop stars it's hard to believe singing can be for everyone. Who would even want to sing anyway it's terribly competitive and you'll make no money from it... And what if I sound bad? Or crack a high? Or I'm pitchy? There would be nothing more embarrassing than that... This workshop aims to get everyone singing and enjoying themselves by the end of the 60-minute session, as well as quieting any negative singing related self-talk. We will be focusing on the singer’s most important job, which is telling a story. There will be something for everyone, new singers and old!

The Eternal Caravan

11/25/2016

Picture
The Eternal Caravan is the figurative umbrella that founder Ari Melinger-Cohen holds as a collective for all of his solo and collaborative creative projects. He conceived of it on a nomadic journey in Australasia as a vision for a traveling music and arts collective. While growing and subject to continuous evolution, The Eternal Caravan is currently focused on music and story-telling.

Broadly speaking, the music is a fusion of jamgrass, Americana, rock, jazz and blues, spiced with musical traditions spanning Western Africa to Eastern Europe and down the Silk Road to India. The instrumentation is similar to that of a modern string band, often with added percussion and exotic instruments. Thus, the music is described as journeygrass.

The stories transport you into the mythical realm to tell the tale of the legendary "Eternal Caravan in the Sky." Prepare to take your inner child upon a heartfelt ride through the waves of life, towards a golden valley, beyond the yonder mountain and under a second sun. On the journey, you'll meet the cast of characters, including the infamous outlaw Tallahassee Jed, the Cosmic Sea Cat, the Sea Camel and the legendary Muillo, to name but a few.

The live show is our favorite aspect of the project because it allows us the opportunity to engage directly and in-the-moment with our fans. We fuse our music and story-telling to create an enchanting atmosphere to ground, connect and dance as we take off on a magic carpet ride. The co-creation is different every time and the Eternal Caravan will adapt to match the ambiance and energy in each venue. We can provide a show ranging from intimate and cozy song- and story time to a high energy hoe down. No matter what, the show is bound to leave you "flying high on board the Eternal Caravan in the Sky!"

The Eternal Caravan is the seed for a community based around music, art, creativity and medicine, both local and global. It is meant to an inclusive canvas and platform for all to feel comfortable expressing themselves and being artists in whatever way feels right. We invite all who are interested to hop on board and co-create.

Sacred Relationships

11/16/2016

If we listen, the natural world speaks. In many cultures around the world one's relationship with nature extends far beyond the physical realm. In some instances, both inanimate and animate objects are continually brought to life through song. In others, the plants and animals speak to those who listen intently. This workshop will present the perspective held by many indigenous tribes worldwide: we, as humans, are not above nature but rather an intricate part thereof. An examination of our sacred relationship with varying plant and animal species through both physical as well as metaphysical lenses will be offered.
